Services

Skimming & re-plastering

Smooth new walls, from a quick skim over sound plaster to stripping back to brick and starting again.

Lumpy walls, cracks that keep coming back, or old plaster that sounds hollow when you tap it: a fresh coat transforms a room. Most walls only need a skim. If the old plaster is loose or crumbling, we’ll strip it back and start again so the new finish lasts.

How a skimming day runs

  1. Furniture covered, floors protected, sockets and switches loosened.
  2. Cracks taped, corners beaded and the wall sealed so the skim doesn’t dry too fast.
  3. Two thin coats, trowelled up to a smooth, flat finish.
  4. Everything cleaned up, with a note on drying times and how to paint it.

Common questions

What's the difference between skimming and re-plastering?+

A skim is a thin finishing coat, about 2 to 3 mm, over walls that are basically sound. Re-plastering means taking the old plaster off back to the brick and putting on a new backing coat and finish. We'll tell you honestly which your walls need.

How much mess will there be?+

Less than you'd think. We sheet everything, keep the dust in the room and clean up every day.
